Gwendoline Rosamond

When I ran across this picture of Gwendoline's Elizabethan gown from the 1570's, I think my mouth actually dropped open! ;-) This gown is quite a stunner, and I think she did such a fabulous job of putting together an entire look that really captures the feel of this period! The dress is made from silk brocade with metal threads, sewn with crimped spangles and real pearls. The fabric came from an Indian sari, and it was entirely hand sewn, except for the buttonholes which are covered by the pinned on stomacher. The colors in this picture are a bit misleading--it is actually peach and green, which you can see better in a photo from the Knowne World Costume Symposium (she's in the first picture in the first gallery). And Gwendoline was also kind enough to send some scans of the amazing fabric that she used, so you can better see the designs on the skirt, border and sleeves. If you would like to contact this wonderful costumer, you can reach her at dameg(at)mediaone.net.
