Alyxx IannettaI was lucky enough to feature Alyxx's amazing German costume last year, and it is great to see that she has outdone herself yet again with this gorgeous Venetian gown. She was recently honored with the grand prize award at the San Bernardino Renaissance Pleasure Faire costume contest. Bravo! It is easy to see how the judges could be "wowed" by such a beautiful courtesan! A description of the outfit has been posted below the photo, and you can contact Alyxx at alyxx(dot)iannetta(at)ntscorp(dot)com.
I love that the Venetians let the richness of their fabric speak for their clothes and generally didn't bog down their dresses with lots of embellishment. I based this dress' silhouette on Titian's Portrait of a Lady in White, 1553. I like the low waist point, the open, ladder laced bodice, low and wide décolleté, and the simplicity of design. I used a silk/cotton blend fabric similar in design to Fasolo Family Portrait and my sleeve design was based on Titian Girl with A Basket of Fruits, 1555-58. Most of the gown, partlet, petticoat, camica and drawers are hand sewn and all are of natural
fibers, mostly silk. I've also made the flag fan and my hairpiece, since my hair is only long enough
to be annoying. Thanks to Elizabeth for the picture.
