Mary Montgomery

This outfit, which is lovingly called "La Strisciata" by it's maker (the Italian word for "striped"), is an astounding copy of my all-time favorite Bronzino portrait. The gown is made from linen with satin sleeves, and I love all the guards and the slashed edging on the neckline and cuffs. The collar of her camicia is embroidered with a lovely blackwork pattern taken from a 16th century Italian sampler (from the late, lamented blackwork library).Ê Mary is also considering adding pinking to the sleeves, or possibly making another version out of wool eventually... but honestly, I think it is already perfect just the way it is! You can also see one more full-length photo here, and you can contact Mary at mary(dot)mont(at)verizon(dot)net.
