Jacklyn Arellano

It is really inspiring to hear about people working together make beautiful things. Jacklyn and her friend Kate Sullivan put their heads and hands together to create this wonderful Elizabethan gown. You can read more about this project below the picture. I love the clean lines of this dress, and the black velvet trim proves that you don't need a million yards of gold lace to make a really classy looking outfit. If you would like to contact Jacklyn, you can reach her at damara521(at)yahoo(dot)com.

This dress was a labor of love. It and the underpinnings were made by myself and my stitching buddy, Kate Sullivan. It started after I bought 100yds of black velvet piping on ebay for $0.99. After that it took on a life of its own. I found the blue-gray fabric at a clearance bin for $2.50. It's originally table linen! But it was 90" wide and has a beautiful subtle fluer de lise woven into it. Kate and I designed the entire gown (it does have sleeves, but they are being decked out). I made the underpinnings (corset, partlet, bumroll, farthingale) and the attifet/veil (got the pattern from another sewing friend). Kate made the dress from a slightly modified Simplicity pattern. The trim is all black velvet. The underskirt is white satin. It is the first elizabethan that Kate has ever done and my first time ever making headgear and I think it brought us closer together (Nothing like millinery and cartridge pleating to make people wanna cry together!). Our next plan is for me to do the dress for her and she does the undies.
