Stephanie E. Nyhof

Stephanie has created a wonderful working-class outfit by making a few alterations to Kass McGann's jacket pattern. I love that she used all wool fabrics and such lovely rustic colors - it makes the whole thing seem so real. And it is really cool to see a person go the extra mile by even wearing authentic reproduction glasses - that adds such a fabulous finishing touch! Even though this outfit is based on very late-Elizabethan or Jacobean fashions, it is such a versitile look, and I'm sure that it would fit in well with a wide variety of reenactment periods. Stephanie sent along a few additional comments about the outfit which you can read below the picture, and you can also contact her at nyhofs(at)goddard(dot)edu.

My mother and I altered a Kass McGann pattern to get the look I wanted. We lengthened the front of the bodice slightly and brought it to a V shape. We shortened the basques into tabs and put them closer together. We lowered the neckline a little, and we added buttons instead of lacing. The doublet and skirt are both wool, and the chemise is also from a Kass McGann pattern and it is linen. I am wearing a linen coif I made, the hat is wool and is from Plymouth Plantation Living History museum, and the glasses are period reproductions from Jas Townsend.
