Christina Engle

Christina is a costumer from Santa Rosa, California who made this charming doublet and skirt combo to wear at a photography clinic at a horse ranch called "Renaissance Ranch". This was her first attempt as Renaissance costuming, and it only took her three weeks to make everything that you see here. I love the detail on her doublet, and I think this sort of outfit looks so perfect for riding. You can see one more gorgeous picture here. Christina sent some more information about the dress, which you can read below the picture, and you can also contact her at Renvers(at)aol(dot)com.

Christina

I am wearing a burgundy skirt made of cotton that I cartridge pleated to a waist band, a black wool doublet with pinking and cording. Though the pinks do not show the under fabric in these photos, it is a deep wine/hot burgundy shot silk. The cording was couched on by hand. The doublet also has tabs on the shoulders. All and all I completed the following in 3 weeks: high necked smock with very full sleeves with a ruffle at the collar, a fully boned corset made from changable gold/purple silk and hand worked eyelets, the doublet, a black underskirt made up of 4 yard of cotton, the over skirt made of 4 yards cotton that has a modest train, and my caul made of a burgundy metallic fabric. To top the costume off I made period shoes as well (though you cannot see them) out of a red velvet.
