Italian Working-class Dress

This outfit is based on the attire of Lombard market-women portrayed in the paintings of Vincenzo Campi during the 1580's. You can see some of the paintings I used for inspiration in this collection of images. This outfit was intended to be my hot and/or rainy weather costume for general mucking around faire, and since it can be worn without a corset, kirtle or petticoat, it is very comfortable and easy to wear. This entire outfit only cost me about $15 out-of-pocket since I was able to make good use of some scraps from my fabric stash. You can read more about the inspiration and construction of this gown in my working-class dress diary.
