Fairie Costume

At the Texas Renaissance Festival, fairies can be found everywhere, and I think the times I have worn this costume at TRF have been some of my most enjoyable days at faire! The dress actually started it's life as a changeable taffeta prom dress that I altered by tacking up the skirt in front, adding ripped, gathered fabric around the bust, and a ton of bells to the waist. The wings are shaped with lightweight wire, covered with matching changeable fabric and a lovely (but somewhat dangerous!) tangle of leaves and berries. In the last picture, you can also see Mike, who is wearing his traveler robes (for lack of a better name to call it). It was based on the McCall's 9426 pattern with the addition wider sleeves. My now-costume-savvy husband refuses to wear this outfit anymore, but it has become the favorite loaner garb worn by quite a few of our friends over the past few years!
