Regency Spencer

For this year's Georgian Picnic, I decided to switch things up a bit and make another Regency costume instead of something from the 18th century. I really enjoyed making and wearing this outfit thanks to the fun military styling and drool-worthy orange taffeta of the spencer. It is a refreshingly different look from any of my other costumes. The first time I wore this outfit, I went for the "more is more" Regency fashion plate look complete with ruff, bonnet, and tons of curls. It was fun wearing it like that, but the first set of pictures showing it without all the foofiness is definitely more of my style. But even if it wasn't as flattering with all the frills, sometimes it's just fun to try out something different. I think we all get too bogged down by our modern fashion aesthetics sometimes, so I figured as long as I was doing Regency, I might as well go ALL out with it!

I wrote up a blog entry with a little bit more about the construction, and you can see pictures from the 2nd annual DFWCG Georgian Picnic here.
